As of March 13-19, municipal courts across Bexar County have closed as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19). These courts include Helotes Municipal Court, Balcones Heights Municipal Court, Shavano Park Municipal Court, Fair Oaks Municipal Court, Fair Oaks Ranch, Fair Oaks Ranch Municipal Court. Municipal Courts, however, deal primarily with misdemeanor or petty offenses, so if you have been charged with a serious crime, this may not affect you.
That being said, though the 44th District Court remains open, juries will be suspended in Texas until May 8, 2020, as of now. Therefore, most evidentiary hearings will be rescheduled, and no in-person proceedings will be held until further notice. That being said, even essential hearings, such as domestic violence cases will still be held, though it is strongly encouraged that those cases are held via telephone conferencing until video conferencing is available. We understand that these are uncertain times, and there is no telling to what extent this virus will continue to impact us on several different levels. However, if you are someone who has been charged with a crime, we are still here to protect you. Please do not hesitate to give our experienced Texas criminal defense attorneys a call today to learn more about what we can do and how these court closures may affect your case.
