Violent Crime Consequences

If you or a loved one has been charged with a violent crime, it is important to be aware of the possible consequences associated with that crime. Some of the most serious offenses can result in life in prison or even the death penalty. With so much at stake, quality legal representation is essential. Some of the consequences of violent crimes in Texas include the following:

Manslaughter: Manslaughter is different from homicide because there is no premeditation to committing the crime. Texas considers both intoxication manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter. In Texas, this crime is a second-degree felony and can result in 2-20 years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Murder: This is the most serious crime that a person can commit. Texas refers to murder in the first degree as capital murder, which can result in the death penalty or life in prison without parole. If the defendant is incapacitated by mental disability, they can avoid the death penalty. Second-degree murder is reserved for those who commit a crime in the “heat of passion,” and can face between 2 and 20 years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of $10,000.

Aggravated Assault: Aggravated assault in Texas is a serious crime that involves the serious injury of the victim or the use of a weapon during an assault. Depending on circumstances that surround the incident, this can result in a first or second-degree felony.

Armed Robbery: Robberies are serious crimes in the state of Texas. When a weapon is involved in committing the act, a robbery can be upgraded to an armed robbery. This can result in a first-degree felony, which comes with 5 to 99 years in state prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
